How Do Scanners Work?

A scanner is effectively a radio receiver capable of receiving multiple signals. Generally, scanners pick up signals in the VHF to UHF range and allow the listener to hear dialogue from the public airwaves. The user can place the scanner in several different modes: scan, manual scan and search. Based on the needs of the consumer, the unit can be programmed to automatically find frequencies where someone is transmitting information or it can be searched manually.
